DigirayÒ System Finds Cracks in Aircraft |

![]() The Digiray system displays a digital x-ray image on the monitor of a personal computer. You can send the original high quality image to another person over a computer network without losing image quality. A remote expert can even advise a technician in real time during the inspection in the field |

Crack appears as a dark
horizontal line. The crack angle changes as the crack lengthens, and there there are
electrical wires running across this section of the corroded wing. This crack weakens the aluminum rib that supports the titanium wing. The Digiray system also locates foreign objects, such as loose bolts. |
|
| The DigirayÒ Reverse Geometry X-rayÒ scanning x-ray tube, situated below the wing, moves an x-ray beam across a section of the aircraft wing. Above the wing, an array of eight x-ray detectors receives crystal clear data. With a single exposure, the system captures eight different x-ray images, each from a different angle. Often, one angle reveals a crack that is invisible from other angles. | ||

The system is faster than an x-ray film system for a single exposure. Compared to taking eight x-ray film exposures, the system is many times faster. Results are easier to store and share. You can even send original quality Digiray images across the internet. |
